Alex van Silfhout began his career at the stud station, riding school De Nieuwe Heuvel in Lunteren. He taught the students and brought out horses in competition in both dressage and jumping. Eventually, in 1996, Alex choose to continue his career in dressage and became very succesful with Saint Ursus d’Olympe. Saint became the Best Stallion at Zwolle CDI in 1998. Alex made it to the top 3 in several international competitions with Saint. In August 1998 Saint was sold to Brazil.
Beside Saint, Alex brought various horses to the Grand Prix, like Master, Lasalle and Dalwinnie’s Forum. At this time Alex is competing Luxform’s Nimbly in the Grand Prix. Lasalle won international prizes in the Eastern Bloc in 1999. During the Dutch Championships in the same year he became 9th in the kür. With Dalwinnie’s Forum Alex won the small tour final at Zwolle in the CDI for stallions in 2004.
Luxform’s Nimbly has been very succesful in the Prix St. Georges. In the winter of 2002-2003 Alex was 3rd at the National Indoor Championships and 5th at the Summer Championship in Nijmegen in 2003. Since March 2004 Alex and Nimbly have been a successful Grand Prix combination. He performed fantastically at the qualifications for the Olympic Games in Athens. At the Dutch National Championships in 2005 Alex and Nimbly reached second place in the heavy tour (indoor).
In 2007 Alex and Nimbly became 3rd at the Dutch National Championships in Eindhoven. In the same year they were very successful at Hickstead and won all 3 trials.
In the last couple of years Alex has been busy training Diederick and Jarissa and his many pupils. Now and again he will still compete, but this has taken second place to training. At this moment he is riding Locke in the Prix St. Georges.
